Last night, CISB was honored to host the Opening Night Reception and Premier Screening of the Canadian documentary, Plastic People, marking the launch of the 2nd annual Planet in Focus International Environmental Film Festival (Beijing).
Held in partnership with the Embassy of Canada and Planet in Focus Environmental Film Festival (Toronto), this special evening brought together over 300 guests, including public attendees, embassy representatives, CISB leadership, and community members—parent association committee members, parents, students, and faculty.
The event served as a meaningful platform to:
– Celebrate World Environment Day 2025, with this year’s global theme: Ending Plastic Pollution.
– Raise awareness of pressing environmental issues through film.
– Promote international collaboration on environmental action.
– Inspire and engage youth on sustainability and global citizenship.
Directed by Ben Addelman and co-directed by science journalist, Ziya Tong, Plastic People investigates the pervasive threat of microplastics in our environment—and within our own bodies. With its science-backed urgency and deeply human storytelling, the documentary calls us to rethink our relationship with plastic.
The film screening was accompanied by personal remarks from Mr. Jean-Christian Brillant, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, Embassy of Canada to the People’s Republic of China, and Mr. Andy Truong, Executive Director of AKD & Board Director of CISB and Vice Chairman of BCCSC. Further, we were honored to have Dr. Charles Pang, President of AKD International & Chairman and Executive Director of CISB, in attendance to support this meaningful event.
Guests also had the opportunity to view specially curated posters representing the eight participating embassies (Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands) and their environmental films.

A Shared Commitment to the Planet
This event marks the beginning of a nationwide screening tour of Plastic People across AKD schools in China, including Shenzhen, Hefei, Fuzhou, Shenyang, Wuhu, and Kunming —spreading the message of environmental stewardship and awareness to even more students, parents, and educators.
Thank You
We are grateful to the Embassy of Canada, participating partners and embassies, and the Planet in Focus International Environmental Film Festival for their collaboration. A special thank-you to our CISB Board and Senior Leadership, staff, students, and community members who attended and helped make the evening such a success.
