CISB Students Shine
The World Mathematics Championships in Melbourne, Australia
Great achievements often begin with curiosity and the initiative to explore beyond the classroom. Last December, two of our Grade 9 students, Jeffery and Tsun Ching, proudly represented CISB on a significant international journey. Traveling from Beijing to Melbourne, Australia, they competed at The World Mathematics Championships (WMC) 2025 and returned with impressive accolades.
A Week of Challenge and Culture
The duo immersed themselves in a week-long residential program from December 14th to 20th, hosted on the prestigious campus of The University of Melbourne. The WMC is a unique platform designed to build skills, resilience, and lifelong friendships through collaborative, real-world problem-solving.
Celebrating Our Champions
We are thrilled to announce their outstanding achievements:
Jeffery secured a Bronze Medal in the Personal Endeavour Challenge. This category celebrates individual grit, perseverance, and highlights one’s personal best.
Tsun Ching secured a Bronze Medal in Application. This award highlights the exceptional ability to apply technical knowledge to creative, real-world scenarios.
The championships are built on a philosophy that Mathematics is a dynamic, human-centered discipline. Our students engaged in diverse challenge rounds that pushed them beyond pure calculation:
Building secure foundations in Technical Knowledge.
Thinking on their feet in Dynamic Strategy rounds.
Collaborating and communicating effectively in team-basesd Synergy and Application challenges.
Unleashing human creativity to develop new and imaginative solutions, proving math is about “being humans instead of robots.”
This approach allowed Jeffery and Tsun Ching to develop critical skills in an exciting and engaging environment. Between challenges, they enjoyed rich cultural experiences, networked with peers from around the globe, and created what many would describe as one of the main highlights of their schooling years.
Congratulations, Jeffery and Tsun Ching!
The entire CISB community is incredibly proud of your dedication, intellect, and teamwork. You have represented our school with distinction and have returned not just with medals, but with enhanced skills, unforgettable memories, and a broader perspective on the power of Mathematics.
Stay tuned for more. We recently interviewed Jeffery and Tsun Ching about their experience, and we look forward to sharing their personal reflections with our community soon.
