
CISB is recognized as an authorized, accredited institution in the section related to the Province of New Brunswick, Canada, on the CICIC website.
CISB complies with all curriculum and statutory requirements and hosts regular inspection visits from AEI teams from and is fully accredited.
CISB graduates with the Canadian High School Diploma are eligible for local fee status in Universities in the Province of New Brunswick, as well as some in Nova Scotia.
CISB and other AKD group of schools have an equivalency agreement with the Department of Education with the Province of New Brunswick in Canada whereby IB course credits are Credits accepted as credits equivalent Canadian High School courses and are recorded on CISB transcripts as a percentage alongside a GPA.
CISB is an IB continuum school and offers the three academic programmes:
- the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) Pre-K – Grade 5)
- the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) Grades 6- 10
- the IB Diploma Porgramme (DP) Grades 11-12
CISB also offers the Canadian High School Diploma Grades 10-12.
Learning at CISB through all the programmes reflects the Learning Philosophy of the IB and adopts a socio-constructivist approach to learning. Learners at CISB learn how to plan, research, take action and reflect on their learning.
The IB learning framework is supported by a range of international curriculum standards:
- New Brunswick curriculum standards
- AERO standards for Math
- Next Generation Science Standards
- IB Approaches to Learning (ATLs)
In some areas these standards are adapted to reflect our unique context and where appropriate, are supplemented to ensure that all CISB learners have access to high-quality learning & teaching resources throughout their learning journey.
CISB High School Learning Pathways
Pathway 1 -Grade 11 – starting with the full IB Diploma.

The IB Diploma is a two year programme consisting of:
- 3 Standard Level subjects
- 3 Higher Level subjects
- Extended Essay
- Theory of Knowledge (ToK)
- Community Action & Service (CAS)
At the end of Grade 11, GPA, courses and University choices are discussed to ascertain the best options to maximise chances for chosen pathways. Some may continue into in the IB Diploma, change to all CHSD subjects, or chose a hybrid of subjects.
Grade 12
For those who continue in the IB Diploma, this programme culminates in external examinations assessments in May of the 2nd year. Various Internal Assessments (IAs)are also submitted on different subject in the months before this.
Pathway 2 – Canadian High School Diploma

Grade 11
Students may choose to start Grade 11 with Canadian High School Diploma courses.
Features of the Canadian High School Diploma:
a. two year programme comprised of a range of semester-based courses.
b. 4-6 courses per semester
c. Each course culminates in internal school assessments at the end of each semester.
d. All students also take Community Action & Service (CAS)
Grade 12
This track continues into Grade 12.
Pathway 3 – Both IB courses and Canadian High School Diploma courses

Grade 11
Students may choose to start with a mixture of IB courses and Canadian High School Diploma courses. This option allows for a greater variety of choice. Students can choose from
a. IB courses (any level)
or
b. CHSD courses + Community Action & Service (CAS)
At the end of Grade 11, GPA, courses and University choices are discussed to ascertain the best options to maximise chances for chosen pathway
Grade 12
Based on University requirements for chosen courses and academic performance students may decide to either:
a. Continue with a mixture of IB courses and Canadian High School Diploma courses.
Or
b. Discontinue IB courses and focus solely on Canadian High School Diploma courses.
