Safeguarding at CISB

 At CISB, safeguarding and child protection is an important aspect of what we do. We are committed to ensuring that every child is safe, supported, and able to learn and thrive in a secure environment. Our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy states:

“The welfare of children is paramount: every decision, action, and interaction is made with the best interest of the child in mind”

Safeguarding is not only about responding to concerns, but also about creating a culture of vigilance, openness, and care where children feel respected, listened to, and protected.

CISB follows a robust safeguarding framework that combines international best practices with local legal requirements. Our policy is aligned with Keeping Children Safe in Education (UK) and adapted to the context of Beijing, China, while also reflecting Chinese law and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Safeguarding at CISB applies to all children at all times and includes proactive measures to promote wellbeing, prevent harm, and ensure early support when concerns emerge. Child protection procedures are activated when there is a specific concern that a child may be at risk of significant harm.

Reporting and Responding to Concerns

All safeguarding concerns are taken seriously and acted upon promptly. Staff are trained to recognize signs of abuse or neglect and are required to record, and report concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). The policy is clear that “reporting concerns is a duty, not an option”. The DSL assesses each concern, ensures appropriate action is taken, and liaises with external agencies where necessary, always prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of the child.

Parents and guardians are valued partners in safeguarding. If you have a concern about your own child or another student, you are encouraged to contact the school directly. Concerns should be shared with the Designated Safeguarding Lead, David Bremner, or the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, Hisham Farghaly, who oversee all safeguarding and child protection matters at CISB. All concerns are handled sensitively, confidentially, and in line with our safeguarding procedures.
