This April, the Noetic Learning Math Contest (NLMC) celebrated its 15th anniversary with a special session highlighting standout students from the Fall contest of November 2023. Students from CIS Beijing across various grade levels displayed their mathematical talent and problem-solving skills at this event.
The competition was a platform for students from different grades to showcase their problem-solving abilities. On April 11th, 19 fifth grade students grappled with challenging problems; on April 17th, 22 fourth graders and 9 sixth graders demonstrated their problem-solving skills; and the event concluded on April 18th with 23 third and 22 fourth graders actively participating. This structured approach allowed students to engage with problems that were tailored to their skill levels, fostering a competitive spirit.
The contest format stimulated deeper analytical thinking beyond standard classroom activities. Participants were challenged to solve 20 unique problems within 45 minutes (50 minutes for online participants) without calculators. This rigorous format encouraged analytical thinking and a sense of recognition, with top performers earning medals and ribbons. It served as a powerful motivator for all participants to strive for excellence.
