Here’s why families choose CISB

As an IB World School, we provide the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), and IB Diploma Programme (DP), ensuring academic rigor, critical thinking, and a global perspective from the Early Years through High School.

4. Downtown Beijing Campus
Our innovative, purpose-built campus is conveniently located in the heart of Beijing’s downtown diplomatic district. From state-of-the-art learning spaces to well-equipped arts, sports, and STEM facilities, our campus is designed to support both academic and extracurricular exploration and success.
5. Balanced Learning Inside and Outside the Classroom
At CISB, learning extends way beyond the classroom setting, through field trips, leadership opportunities, and an extensively rich After-School Activities (ASA) program. We emphasize a balanced approach to education, fostering academic achievement, personal wellbeing, and social responsibility.
6. Early Years to Graduation: A Seamless Pathway
We welcome students starting as early as 6 months old (Early Years) through to Grade 12 (High School), providing a seamless educational journey tailored to every stage of development.
7. Individualized Graduation Pathways
In High School, CISB students can pursue one of two graduation pathways, through the Canadian (New Brunswick) High School Diploma or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. With personalized guidance, students select the pathway that best fits their strengths, interests, and future goals.
We recognize that transitioning between international school systems can be a challenging journey. To ensure a smooth transition, we believe that students benefit greatly from being placed with peers of similar ages.
You may refer to the age-eligibility guidelines below. Please note that applicants for Early Years (EY) through to Grade 1 will be placed strictly according to their age as of December 31. Applicants who have completed Grade 1 (or equivalent programs) and higher, and who are younger than the guidelines indicated here, may be considered for alternative grade placements upon thorough review of each child’s academic, social, and emotional development to determine their best fit.

Guidance for Students Applying from Schools with Different Academic Calendars
CISB’s academic year begins mid-August and ends mid-June. We understand that many students come from schools with different academic calendars, and we’re here to support that transition.
When determining grade placements for students from different educational systems, and with different school years, such as those commonly found in Korea, Japan, or Australia, we consider the following factors:
- The child’s age
- The percentage of the school year already completed at their previous/most recent school
- The child’s progress and development throughout that time
- The percentage of the school year remaining at CISB
Our goal is to ensure that each student is placed at the most suitable grade level, in order for them to transition smoothly and truly thrive (socially, emotionally, and academically) at our school.
